  • I watched this movie last night, it was very, very good. It was about Nathaniel Kahn, the son of the architect Louis Kahn(who had died in 1974), going through his dad's past and works. I really liked it because he went to a majority of his works including the famous ones and he talked with other architects about his dad and architecture in general. Louis Kahn had a wife and two mistresses, and Nathaniel was the son of one of the mistresses. She was a landscape architect that worked with him on various projects he completed...and the two of them were always wanting Louis to come live with them.(which he never did) So it is a kind of a meloncoly movie at times....

Louis Kahn actually lived in Philadelphia, he had an office at 1501 Walnut Street. He was actually commissioned to design the downtown area when they were rebuilding it. Part of his plan consisted of circular parking garages at the edge of downtown where people would park and walk the rest. It of course never got done...like a majority of his work...he was a half a million dollars in the hole when he died...but his works are celebrated as architectural feats.

For those of you who don't know, Mikey(underaliceswings) had to sculpt something that represents himself for a class. So I decided I would take part, my sculpture would be:

It would be a tank, sturdy and reliable...isolated on the battlefield...I would have dents in my armor and in the dents would be words like Love, Anger, words of critism and people's names to symbolize expierences and people that have affected me in life good and bad. The one of the tracks of the tank would be off, and my friends and family would be trying to fix it. This would symbolize how friends and family are always there for you...the good ones anyways...and if you didn't you would be a tank driving in circles.
