Too bad. I saw a movie that featured a burning vineyard in Mexico. The hero found one last chunk of rootstock that had survived. (His fiancee's dad had started the fire while trying to kill him.)
We had a gorgeous rainstorm this afternoon. I sat on the porch and watched with my daughter Elizabeth.
I've never seen it this brown, and I'm totally bummed there will be no grape harvest this year. Grape harvest is my favorite time of year.
@saintvi - eh it is just one grape farm in LaPorte, so who knows? Some vineyards might irrigate...
Our vineyards were wiped out by the early spring and late frost.
Yep. LaPorte Co. was included on the drought disaster list along with St. Joe. The price of sweet corn is so high. I wonder if there will be any IN grown available this year... shame really. And no melons either... truly a disaster!
@saintvi - ha...well maybe the frost got this farm too...I think it is the drought though because those piles are old root stalks...
@murisopsis - try watering sod...it has a about a 2" root zone...ha
We need some rain here really bad too
Yikes -- it looks almost as bad as the vineyard in the desert that hasn't been tended for 30-40 years!
Oh, no, I would send you some of this downpour if I could...
(your title says "dought" which sounds like a play on words)
@Roadkill_Spatula - I remember that movie. Keano Reeves acts as the hero. Can't remember the title.
What a phenomenal photograph. But how sad, that the drought is so wide spread through the country. All the farmers have had such a hard time. The corn is gone. It is heartbreaking.
@ZSA_MD - Somehow it has made the normal July bearable for me as normally I have to explain why seed isn't coming up...
