  • Drought IV

    Everybody ran giddy
    In the street
    Dropping pens
    Paper
    Napkins
    And
    never to return

Plants in anticipation of a good drink
Air conditioners oblivious in their hum

    And they run
    Everyone

People exclaim that running in the rain
    Gets you just as wet
    As walking in the rain

    I like this
Something about living your life one way
Only to find it is wrong

    Even if it isn't true

  • : ) I really like the last bits especially. They make me smile.

If I were to write a drought poem it would go like this: Drought. Fucking ants, coming in all the cracks. If you don't lead them to water, they'll suck you dry.

Good thing you're the one writing drought poems.

  • It rained while we were at a roadside park in Arkansas. The temperature dropped from 104 to 74 in about five minutes. We didn't run or walk, just stood there for a bit and enjoyed the wet and the cool and reminisced about the good old days when Michigan was green. And then ten minutes later it stopped and steam started rising from the asphalt and the temperature shot back up again.

  • @saintvi - LOL.  It always happens that way in the summer.  The rain just makes it hotter....liked being steamed.

This poem was wonderful.  I think you get wetter when you run, no matter what anyone says.  Jumping helps as well.

  • @anvilsandedelweiss - All these ants in my house are driving me nuts.  I'm finding them everywhere, and I do mean everywhere.  I even found them in my bed last night.  Bleh.

  • It rained early, early this morning. If I wasn't still half asleep I would have run outside into it.

  • one thing I'm pretty sure about is if you run, walk or jump in the rain you will get wet to some degree - it's thundering here right now - it thundered all night long!

  • In 1980, which used to be the hottest year on record, rain finally came in early August just as I was getting off work at the moving company. I got on my bike and rode home in the downpour. First intersection I reached, my brakes didn't work and I ran a stop sign. Fortunately there were no cars coming. It felt great to get soaked.

  • I like this . See what the drought inspires.... peace always

  • @WakeUpLaughing - I stood in the rain today...I confess...

@Roadkill_Spatula - ha...that probably felt like going in slow motion...

@mlbncsga - unless of course one uses an umbrella...or a bubble...

@peacenow - If I am going to get tortured by it, I may as well write about it

  • The rain was nice but it didn't last long enough! This reminds me of a SciFi short story....
