I had my DNA genetically sequenced
The other day
In the basement of a hospital
That burned Purell for heating gas
And smoked money for electricityIt was there it was foretold
And there it was shown
There they transported me to my death
Where I was clutching my chest and rubbing my temples
And the nurse went to go get someone to help
I was 40 years too early

I have no idea what this is about but I like it. I like 'and rubbing my temples' in second to last position. Just sayin.
@distractedbyzombies - Yeah...that is kind of a bummer...it is about a person going to get their genome sequenced (which tells them their genetic weaknesses) and instead has a heart attack and dies...
@HereLiesNelsontheGreat - Okay, no idea might have been an overstatement. That sounds close to the image I got. Except I thought maybe it was predicting their death, which provoked a heart attack. My fingers are stuttering. I'll leave it there.
I now feel like I need to put purell on my hands
@distractedbyzombies - Well yes that was the idea...you know all your genetic weaknesses...
@godfatherofgreenbay - Cover your hair and your eyes...
I think I've just stepped into the Twilight Zone. Interesting vision of the future. peace & smiles
Sometimes it is better to not know... This makes me think of the women lopping off their breasts because they have a gene that predisposes them to breast cancer.
Touches on a very real possibility.
I just had a workmate die who was diagnosed with lung cancer when he thought he had bronchitis. When they did an x-ray, they said the cancer had spread throughout his entire body and he had 2 to 14 days to live.
He died within one.
@BookMark61 - Whew...I have heard of '6 months to live' but that defies that...I googled lung cancer and saw that only 15% of people live 5 years after diagnosis of lung cancer...and that 90% of those that die from it are smokers...while 3400 people die a year from indirect smoke...
@murisopsis - It is an interesting debate...it is throwing more knowledge out there and hoping the public has the wherewithal to use the information intelligently...I believe that is where geneticists are going...it was an NPR story I heard over the weekend...
@peacenow - It is turning closer to the present...be afraid...be very afraid!
"it is about a person going to get their genome sequenced (which tells them their genetic weaknesses) and instead has a heart attack and dies"
This is amazing! A poem that means pretty much what it depicts!
hospital basements are real scary...
@BookMark61 - it makes me wonder if he had not gone to get the x-ray would he have lived longer than just the one day...the power of suggestion is scary too =/
Sad. Times.
Dear Nelson. Please don't die.
@Finity - Dear Sasha,
Thank you.
@NoGraySunflowers - At times. Sad.
@mlbncsga - Yeah I don't know why it went to the basement, it was where the story took me. It's the story's fault I swear.
@Roadkill_Spatula - I am trying constantly for you babe.
@mlbncsga - I had similar thoughts. It has been surreal for all of us who knew him. He just didn't look sick at all. After he died, another friend of mine went straight to the doctor about his cough, which he was glad turned out to only be aggravated allergies.
Yah I think theres room for concern here ....im with that finity guy , nelson DON'T die......................
@rebootie - Finity girl...and I won't...ever...you know die...
@BookMark61 - That last part almost makes me laugh...almost...
I knew a woman whose uterus ruptured while she was seeing her obstetrician at his hospital office a few weeks before she was due. They had her on an operating table and open within several minutes. She and the baby ended up fine.
@Roadkill_Spatula - And then there is that...
